The brother of an Australian prisoner on death row at Bali’s Kerobokan prison says some Australian prisoners helped prevent last week’s riot at the jail from becoming more violent.
Michael Chan, the brother of Bali Nine member Andrew Chan, says some of the Australian prisoners protected the prison’s women’s quarter and the armoury section from rioting prisoners.
Mr Chan told the ABC the actions of the Australian prisoners were brave.
“Basically their lives were at risk I think choosing those choices to protect the women’s quarters and you know the armoury, it’s not something you just do,” he said.
Michael Chan’s claims about the Australian prisoners’ behaviour are yet to be independently verified.
